Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management - Citywide Concrete Unit

This unit supports the agency's goal to enhance, rehabilitate, and maintain the city's infrastructure by serving as the primary construction unit. The team includes engineers, managers, support staff, and laborers focused on safety, quality, and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Supervisor Bricklayer, the selected candidate will work as part of a crew performing tasks such as:

  1. Laying brick and masonry on structures;
  2. Fireproofing, block arching, terra cotta cutting, and setting brick masonry for sewers and manholes;
  3. Laying cobblestone and pavers;
  4. Setting granite curbs;
  5. Reading and following plans and specifications;
  6. Keeping job records;
  7. Supervising assigned personnel, if applicable.

Additional duties may be assigned in line with the employee's title.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have by the last day of the application period:

  1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Bricklayer; or
  2. At least three years of experience as described above, plus bricklayer apprentice experience or training in an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school, credited at six months per year of experience or training.
Preferred Skills

To be considered, candidates must either be serving permanently in the title, or be reachable on the civil service list, exam # 0155, or have filed and be reachable on exam # 4518 or 4020. Preference will be given to candidates with a valid New York State driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment.
