Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management - Citywide Concrete Unit

This unit supports the city's infrastructure projects by acting as the primary construction team, employing engineers, managers, support staff, and laborers, focusing on cost-efficiency, safety, and quality.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Check concrete forms for correct construction.
  2. Set forms to the desired pitch and depth, ensuring proper alignment.
  3. Spread, level, and smooth concrete using appropriate tools.
  4. Monitor concrete temperature during curing.
  5. Finish the concrete surface and mold expansion joints and edges.
  6. Guide vehicle operators during concrete pours and position chutes correctly.
  7. Direct concrete casting and supervise laborers in spreading concrete and installing ADA tiles.
  8. Prepare materials and maintain records for each job.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a cement mason, or
  2. At least three years of full-time experience as a cement mason plus relevant training or experience to make up the remaining required experience. Credit is given for six months of experience for each year of mason's helper experience or approved training.
Preferred Skills

***Candidates must be permanently serving in the Cement Mason title or have filed for Exam #5033; proof required.***

  • Possession of a valid NYS Driver's License.
  • Experience with power tools, walk-behind saw, demolition hammer, plate compactor, and power drill.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
