Job summary

Azalea Therapeutics is seeking a Research Associate I/II to join its Research & Development team in Berkeley. The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and executing robust cell-based assays to evaluate EDV delivery and genome editing, generating high-quality data, and maintaining rigorous records. Collaboration across research and development is essential.

The position offers onsite work five days a week with a competitive salary and bonus eligibility, aligned with California market norms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related discipline, or equivalent education/experience.
• Research Associate I: 0–2 years; II: 2–4 years with increasing independence.
• Hands-on mammalian cell culture and cell-based assay execution in biotech/pharma settings.
• At least one cell-based readout (flow cytometry, viability, reporter assays, proliferation, cytokine release, activation, cytotoxicity).
• Experience with molecular readouts (qPCR, digital PCR) and protocol following.
• Ability to analyze data, assess assay quality, and communicate findings clearly.
• Commitment to safety, documentation, and laboratory integrity.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute cell-based assays evaluating EDV delivery, genome editing, T-cell engineering, and cellular activity.
• Culture, expand, and maintain mammalian cells and primary immune cells using aseptic technique.
• Perform functional readouts and analyze assay performance; document deviations.
• Optimize assay conditions to improve sensitivity, range, robustness, and reproducibility.
• Prepare samples, reagents, controls, and assay plates per approved plans.
• Summarize data, communicate results at team meetings, and contribute to reports.
• Troubleshoot assays and cell culture issues; support method transferability.
• Support lab operations: reagent prep, inventory, equipment upkeep, and safety compliance.
