Job summary

Azalea Therapeutics is seeking a Research Associate I/II to join its Research & Development team at our Berkeley, CA headquarters. This hands-on role focuses on developing and executing robust cell-based assays to evaluate EDV delivery, genome editing, and T-cell engineering, generating high-quality data and maintaining meticulous lab records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, cell biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, immunology, or related field.
• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and execution of cell-based assays in biotech/pharma settings.
• Experience with readouts such as flow cytometry, plate-based viability, or reporter assays.
• Molecular biology readouts like qPCR and digital PCR; able to follow protocols and document results.
• Ability to analyze data, assess assay quality, and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Execute and support development of cell-based assays evaluating EDV delivery, genome editing, T-cell engineering, cellular activity, and candidate performance.
• Culture, expand, and maintain mammalian cell lines and primary immune cells using aseptic technique.
• Perform cell-based functional and potency assays using readouts such as ddPCR, flow cytometry, viability assays, or reporter assays.
• Optimize assay conditions to improve sensitivity, dynamic range, robustness, and reproducibility.
• Prepare test articles, samples, reagents, controls, and assay plates per approved protocols.
• Collect, analyze, and summarize assay data; document deviations and trends.
