Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site field inspector to support transportation projects across multiple locations in the United States. You will perform inspections of traffic control, materials, and construction methods under direct supervision on active sites.

Responsibilities include reviewing daily contractor reports, QC procedures, and ensuring plans and specifications are followed. A high school diploma, valid driver’s license, and 2 years of related experience are required; travel of 20–40%

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; related inspection experience preferred.
Certifications from a State Highway Agency or NICET/ACI in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete when required.
Valid driver’s license.
Minimum 2 years of related inspection experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.

Responsibilities

Perform inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of a project under direct supervision.
Determine the acceptability of the day‑to‑day work performed by the contractor; review daily reports and verify QC procedures for conformance with plans.
Review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract; measure quantities of materials placed; may perform sampling and in‑place testing.
