Job summary

S&ME is seeking Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Inspectors to join our Transportation team across North Carolina, including Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington, and surrounding areas. In this role, you\'ll help ensure construction activities meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

This mid-level or lead technician role may involve independent work on medium-sized projects or teamwork on larger ones, with opportunities to advance as you gain

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Technical degree substitutions may replace one year of experience.
• Active NCDOT certifications are preferred (Roadway, Density, Concrete, Erosion Control II, Nuclear Gauge).
• Strong English communication and solid math skills are essential.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee contractor activities and ensure project completion.
• Inspect earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control per plans.
• Inspect erosion controls and perform material sampling and testing.
• Prepare daily inspection reports and document performance.
• Attend progress and safety meetings with engineers and stakeholders.
• Conduct DBE/EEO compliance surveys.
