Job summary

S&ME, Inc. is seeking CEI Inspectors to join our Transportation team across North Carolina, including Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington, and surrounding areas.

You’ll oversee contractor activities, ensure safety and quality, and contribute to major infrastructure projects that serve North Carolina communities. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in highway construction or inspection preferred.
• Technical degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology may substitute for one year of experience.
• Active NCDOT certifications (QMS Roadway, Conventional Density, Concrete Field Technician, Erosion Control Level II, Nuclear Gauge).
• Strong English communication skills, both oral and written.
• Solid math skills with understanding of weight, volume, and measurement units.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction activities (earthmoving, paving, bridge work, traffic control) to ensure plans, specs and safety standards are met.
• Inspect erosion control and environmental compliance; perform material sampling and testing.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports and document contractor performance and payments.
• Perform calculations and maintain records of material quantities and project timelines.
• Attend progress and safety meetings with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Conduct DBE/EEO compliance surveys to verify inclusivity and workforce standards.
