LanguageLine Solutions is hiring a Cebuano Interpreter to work from home in the United States. The position is an independent contractor role with pay ranging from $0.65 to $0.80 per minute. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, provide legal work authorization in the U.S., and meet the technical and physical requirements listed below.
Position Overview
The Cebuano Telephone Interpreter facilitates real‑time verbal communication between Cebuano and English speakers across a variety of industries, including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel and hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The role involves interpreting both simple and complex, technical and non‑technical conversations. The interpreter does not perform written translation but may view and respond to any requests for written work from the language team.
Essential Job Functions
- Respond promptly to interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Render accurate concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout all sessions, remaining calm in emergency situations (e.g., 911 calls).
- Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
- Follow client instructions and protocol, ensuring appropriate interaction with the limited‑English‑speaking person (LEP) only with the client’s permission.
- Understand and apply industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law, among others.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and commitment to a diverse environment.
- Remain on call for extended periods if needed and manage high call volumes while meeting company standards of service.
Qualifications
- Fluency in Cebuano and English, with strong cultural competency regarding dialects and accents.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high‑accuracy interpretation.
- Ability to remain detached, neutral, and objective, especially during sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and discussions of sexual orientation or gender expression.
- Educational or professional background in language‑related fields (e.g., teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation) preferred.
- Adaptability to LLS technology enhancements and ability to use new tools promptly.
- Minimum education: high school diploma or equivalent.
- Legal work authorization in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements.
- Proficiency in reading and writing the required languages is highly preferred.
- Background check and drug screen may be required based on location.

Physical Requirements
