Job summary

Halifax Health is seeking an Equipment Technician for the Clinical Decision Unit. The role involves clerical duties, medical equipment maintenance, supply management, and assisting staff to maintain patient safety.

You will enter physician orders, manage charts, and assist with patient transport and care as needed. Responsibilities include coordinating with Biomedical, ensuring alarms are active, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Successful completion and maintenance of AHA BLS
• Knowledge of medical terminology or unit secretary certification preferred
• Health related experience in supply and distribution or as Equipment Tech/Nursing Assistant/Operating Room Tech preferred
• Completion of General Orientation and Unit Orientation and unit-specific competency checklist
• Basic computer skills or ability to learn hospital computer
• Effective communication with unit staff and other departments

Responsibilities

• Enters physician orders into the computer accurately and efficiently with correct patient identifiers
• Establishes priority of unit needs
• Aware of role in all emergency situations
• Assembles and maintains patient charts, ensures paperwork is properly labeled
• Orders unit supplies and chart forms
• Greets patient, visitors, physicians and hospital personnel courteously
• If Monitor Tech competent, ensures patients are monitored, alarms active, responds to alarms and notifies RN/charge nurse/clinical coordinator
• Notifies RN immediately for changes in patient rhythm
• Admits, discharges and transfers patients timely
• Collaborates with Biomedical Department on equipment maintenance
• Reports defective equipment and tags per policy
• Maintains unit supplies and cleans/disinfects equipment
• Maintains clean, safe environment and identifies hazards
• Run errands to SPD, Radiology, Lab and other units
• Assists with patient transport and care duties as assigned
• Checks patient IDs with two identifiers prior to interaction
• Demonstrates professionalism and accountability
