Job summary

Universal Logistics is a leading provider of customized transportation and logistics solutions with local Reno operations and ports in Oakland. The role requires a Class A CDL with driving experience and a clean safety record.

You will operate trucks, perform inspections, load/unload cargo, keep logs, and liaise with dispatch while ensuring timely deliveries. We offer home daily schedules, a full benefits package after 90 days, PTO and holidays, and no-touch freight with automatic Peterbilt

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• Class A CDL with 6 months verifiable experience in the last year.
• Clean driving record with proven safe-driving history.
• No DUI/OWI in the last 5 years.
• No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years.
• No more than 2 preventable accidents in the last 3 years.
• Strong time management & communication skills.
• Prior rail experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Operate commercial trucks safely in accordance with regulations.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report maintenance issues.
• Load and unload cargo; secure loads properly.
• Transport goods to destinations within schedule.
• Maintain logs of driving hours and rest periods (DOT compliance).
• Communicate with dispatch about delays or route changes.
• Complete delivery documents accurately (bills of lading, receipts).
• Follow planned routes and adjust for traffic/weather.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate commercial trucks safely and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues.
• Load and unload cargo as needed, ensuring proper securing of loads.
• Transport goods to assigned destinations within scheduled timeframes.
• Maintain electronic or paper logs of working hours, driving hours, and rest periods (DOT compliance).
• Communicate with dispatch regarding delays, incidents, or route changes.
• Ensure accurate completion of delivery documentation (bills of lading, delivery receipts, etc.).
• Follow planned routes while adjusting for traffic or weather conditions.
• Provide excellent customer service at delivery sites.
• Keep equipment clean and report any necessary repairs.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Prior rail experience preferred but not required
• Class A CDL 6 months of verifiable experience in the last year
• Clean driving record with proven safe-driving history

WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to sit for extended periods while driving Exposure to varying weather conditions. Early morning, late evening, weekend, or holiday shifts may be required.
