Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. is seeking a CDL Trainer to coach employee-owners through hands-on, behind-the-wheel and yard training so they earn their Commercial Driver's License and operate ESS trucks safely, confidently, and in compliance with FMCSA requirements.

You will ride along, demonstrate, correct, encourage, and document progress, assisting the CDL Instructor with classroom sessions and preparing trainees for the state skills test.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
• Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class A driving experience.
• Current DOT medical card and ability to pass DOT drug/alcohol testing.
• Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations and hours of service.
• Strong communication and teaching abilities.
• Basic computer skills for records and training documentation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver behind-the-wheel (BTW) range and public-road training to CDL trainees per ESS curriculum and ELDT requirements.
• Demonstrate and coach pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and basic vehicle control.
• Support the CDL Instructor with classroom sessions on hours of service, hazard perception, space and speed management, and cargo securement.
• Adapt coaching to each trainee's experience level and learning style; provide real-time feedback.
• Prepare trainees for the state CDL skills test and assist with test scheduling and logistics.
• Record training hours, skills, and progress; maintain audit-ready training records.
