Job summary

Republic Services is offering a Driver Trainee program in the United States that trains employees to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Upon completion, you transition into a Driver role across Residential, Commercial, Industrial or Roll-Off lines of business.

The program includes classroom study, on-route training, and access to a truck for CDL testing. Successful trainees will commit to twelve months of employment after obtaining their CDL and will learn to perform vehicle

Qualifications

• No prohibitions to acquiring a commercial drivers’ license.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete Republic Services’ CDL training program, including classroom study, on-route training, driving experience, and access to a loaned truck to take CDL exam.
• Complete twelve (12) full months of employment with Republic Services after obtaining a CDL.
• Learn to perform pre- and post-operation inspections of the assigned vehicle per policy to ensure tires, fluids, safety equipment, gauges and controls are in proper order.
• Report safety issues on standard reports.
• Learn to operate a heavy or commercial truck along a designated route and service each customer as identified on the route sheet or by the dispatcher.
• Learn to operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate a compactor and dispose of material at the facility.
• Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag containers per departmental procedures.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
• Maintain the vehicle in operational condition to minimize downtime; clean waste from packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• After obtaining a CDL, perform all Driver responsibilities in one of the Company’s lines of business (Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Roll-Off).
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
