Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Operate roll-off trucks to collect and transport waste.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed.
  • Follow all safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate roll‑off trucks and ancillary equipment to safely collect and transport waste
  • Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, maintain daily truck reports, route sheets, and other documentation
  • Immediately communicate any vehicle mechanical issues to your mechanic or supervisor
  • Maintain route quality and operational standards set by management
  • Operate equipment using safe driving techniques to prevent mechanical failures
  • Follow all safety standards, company policies, and federal/state/local regulations, including customer‑specific rules
  • Identify and report potential hazards while serving/picking up containers
  • Keep your vehicle clean and well‑maintained, both inside and out
  • Promptly report all accidents or incidents to your supervisor
  • Represent GFL professionally in appearance, demeanor, and customer interactions
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed and work closely with supervisors to improve route efficiency
  • Attend safety meetings and branch meetings as required
  • Be willing to work overtime when necessary
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience OR CDL school certificate
  • Ability to meet Company standards for safety‑sensitive functions
  • Proven ability to safely operate trucks and associated equipment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to operate a variety of trucks and equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic math skills for job‑related calculations
  • Ability to complete reports and documentation accurately
  • Ability to read and understand company policies and procedures
  • Strong problem‑solving and common‑sense reasoning
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell as required
  • Visual skills including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly lift/move up to 10 lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs
  • Sit up to 75% of the time while driving
  • Work in loud conditions and handle constant vehicle maneuvering
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor work in all types of weather, including heat, cold, rain, and storms
  • Exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic/caustic chemicals
  • Continuous travel on routes away from branch locations
  • Occasional work in high or precarious locations
  • Constant exposure to traffic and noisy environments
