Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an equipment operator to manage herbicide application along District 6 roads and bridges, following the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management plan. You will collect data for HMMS and support the crew with safety and maintenance tasks.

The role requires one year of related experience or equivalent, a valid license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required; Class A CDL within six months.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate herbicide application equipment and herbicide truck per IRVM plan.
• Enter data into HMMS for operation of equipment.
• Perform quality control checks on data to ensure accuracy of reports.
• Assist in completing job hazard analysis forms and participate in safety meetings.
• Place traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones.
• Complete CDL pre-trip inspections prior to operating CDL vehicles.
• Assist in gathering data for daily, weekly, and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records.
• Assist in maintenance and emergencies removing fallen trees, snow, ice from highways and bridges.
