Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Group in Chadbourn, NC is seeking a CDL-A Operator / Laborer to support inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track. You will operate commercial vehicles such as dump trucks or grapple trucks in varying outdoor conditions.

This full-time role requires travel, adherence to DOT regulations, and basic mechanical knowledge. Previous railroad construction or maintenance experience is preferred, and safety PPE must be used at all times.

Qualifications

• CDL A license required and demonstrated experience operating CDL-A vehicles.
• Experience operating heavy or specialized equipment.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple failures.
• Previous railroad construction or maintenance experience preferred.

Job description

R.J. Corman is currently seeking a CDL-A Operator / Laborer at its Carolina Line based out ofChadbourn, NC. This candidate will operate commercial vehicles such as dump trucks, grapple trucks, etc. in a safe manner in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track.

This position requires some travel.

Responsibilities:

• Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment
• Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness
• May perform labor duties as needed
• Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process
• Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require
• Follow DOT regulations; ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:

• Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge
• CDL A License and demonstrated performance operating CDL-A required vehicles
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures
• Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Able to perform physical strenuous work
• Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
• Requires occasional use of 30lbclaw bar to remove spikes,requiring application of 50lbsof force
• Requires occasional use of 10lbsledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbsof force
• Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
• Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
