Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Group, LLC is seeking a CDL-A Operator/Laborer to join the Carolina Line based in Chadbourn, NC. The role involves operating dump and grapple trucks and supporting inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track.

The position requires travel and a valid CDL-A. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, equipment upkeep, and safe work practices in outdoor environments with DOT compliance.

Qualifications

• CDL-A license required with demonstrated ability to operate CDL-A vehicles.
• Experience operating heavy or specialized equipment.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple failures.
• Previous railroad construction or maintenance experience preferred.

Job description

R.J. Corman is currently seeking a CDL-A Operator / Laborer at its Carolina Line based out ofChadbourn, NC. This candidate will operate commercial vehicles such as dump trucks, grapple trucks, etc. in a safe manner in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track.

This position requires some travel.

Responsibilities:

• Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment
• Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness
• May perform labor duties as needed
• Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process
• Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require
• Follow DOT regulations; ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:

• Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge
• CDL A License and demonstrated performance operating CDL-A required vehicles
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures
• Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Able to perform physical strenuous work
• Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
• Requires occasional use of 30lbclaw bar to remove spikes,requiring application of 50lbsof force
• Requires occasional use of 10lbsledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbsof force
• Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
• Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
