Job summary

Driving Academy in Wayne, NJ seeks a CDL Instructor to ensure students receive top-tier education for the CDL road test. You will work hands-on with students at our training yard to perfect pre-trip inspections, in-cab checks, parking maneuvers, and safe vehicle operation under applicable laws.

Responsibilities include preparing lesson materials, evaluating performance, tracking vehicle time, and helping enforce safety policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid CDL Class A license and clean driving record required.
• Two years of relevant experience sought.
• Class A license preferred for the role.
• Bilingual/multilingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in operating CDL vehicles, including tractors and buses.
• Teach parking maneuvers with/without trailers, straight back, and parallel.
• Ensure familiarity with controls, gauges and components.
• Lead pre-trip and in-cab inspections to prepare for CDL testing.
• Prepare materials for simulator lessons and evaluate student performance.
• Track and assign student time in vehicles.
• Collaborate with management to develop safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections and assist with maintenance as needed.
• Maintain student/yard paperwork and records.
• Move vehicles across training yard as required.
• Provide instruction on safe operation in city, highway, residential, rural settings.
• Oversee students learning to drive on public roads and ensure safety.
• Explain steering, braking and turning techniques; teach defensive driving.
• Demonstrate handling of skids and driving emergencies.
• Teach state vehicle laws, speed limits, and insurance considerations.
• Introduce basic concepts of vehicle maintenance.
• Administer tests related to curriculum content.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
