Job summary

Driving Academy in Wayne, New Jersey seeks a Full-time CDL instructor to teach aspiring drivers the practical skills needed to earn a CDL. Local, on-site role with a stable schedule and no overnight travel.

Competitive hourly pay between $23 and $25, with benefits and ongoing training available. Responsibilities include range and field instruction, road training on public roads, student progress coaching, equipment safety, and classroom/simulator support.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
• At least 2 years of relevant commercial driving experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication skills and the patience to coach students through challenging maneuvers safely and calmly.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, perform physical inspections (including looking beneath vehicles), climb into and out of trucks and buses, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Range & Field Instruction: Coach students on pre-trip and in-cab inspections, basic vehicle control, and essential parking maneuvers.
• Road Training: Accompany students on public roads, teaching safe steering, braking, gear shifting, defensive driving techniques, and emergency maneuvers.
• Student Progress & Coaching: Offer constructive feedback, maintain accurate student training logs, and adapt your teaching style.
• Equipment & Range Safety: Move vehicles, perform routine inspections, top off fluids, and keep equipment test-ready.
• Classroom & Simulator Support: Prepare simulator materials, evaluate assignments, and reinforce traffic laws and maintenance concepts.
