Job summary

The Florida Department of Transportation in Gainesville seeks a full-time equipment maintenance technician to support bridge and roadway upkeep on-site. You will operate and service equipment, perform minor repairs, and assist with traffic control tasks and reporting.

Applicants must have a valid Class B CDL with air brakes at hire and will obtain Temporary Traffic Control certification within one year. The role requires the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and lift up to 50

Qualifications

• One year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
• Must have a valid Class B CDL with air brakes at time of hire.
• Temporary Traffic Control certification within one year and maintenance of traffic responsibilities.
• Ability to read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. Operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to; dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance.
• Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision.
• Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
