Job summary

State of West Virginia seeks a Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator to perform skilled work in highway construction and maintenance. The role involves operating heavy equipment such as skid steer, aerial bucket truck, loaders, and tandem trucks, with potential for field repairs and traffic control duties.

The position requires a Class A or B CDL, and the selected candidate will enter a Department of Labor apprenticeship program.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of methods and equipment used in highway maintenance.
• Ability to diagnose less complex mechanical problems and follow repair procedures.
• Ability to read operating manuals and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate highway maintenance equipment (skid steer, bucket truck, loaders).
• Perform minor mechanical repairs in the field (tires, blades, filters).
• Inspect and maintain equipment; keep records of work orders and hours.
• Flag and set up traffic control signs and barricades on projects.
• Travel may be required and a valid driver’s license is required.
• Operate vehicles with GVWR 26,001+ lbs and perform related duties.
