Job summary

Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland (RTA) is seeking a Safety and Training Instructor to train drivers and other staff and to enforce safety and regulatory compliance with minimal supervision at our Annapolis Junction facility.

The role requires CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement, 2+ years in training, and strong communication skills. You will conduct classroom and hands-on training, track attendance, and support safety initiatives across fleets and shifts.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 2 years of direct experience in Commercial Vehicle Operation - Class B or higher with Passenger endorsement and no airbrakes restriction.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B or higher with Passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions.
• At least 2 years of direct experience in Training/Instructing.
• At least 1 year of direct experience in performing transit safety duties.
• Must acquire and maintain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Card).
• Fluency in English.
• Ability and availability to work non-standard hours/days (nights, weekends, early mornings).
• High-school diploma or GED equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provides classroom instruction, closed course driver training, behind-the-wheel training, vehicle orientation, and route learning for new drivers/operators.
• Provides instruction on performing a certified CDL Pre-Trip inspection for trainees.
• Provides refresher training and post-incident training for current drivers/operators.
• Supports safety training for maintenance, dispatch, and operation staff.
• Maintains training documentation and attendance records as required by regulation and policy.
• Conducts safety meetings with or without the Safety and Training Manager.
• Assists with developing and updating training curriculum and materials.
• Monitors compliance with the Drive-Cam program and coaching drivers/operators.
