Founded in 1965, Universal Supply operates locations in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, providing professional builders with specialty building products such as roofing, siding, windows, doors, cabinetry, millwork, and fasteners.

The CDL Driver I delivers materials to job sites, inspects and maintains trucks, reports shortages and claims to supervisors, and assists in loading and storing materials. Typically, involves driving trucks with a capacity of over three tons, but may include less experienced CDL or tractor-trailer drivers.

What you will do

1. Operate vehicles safely.
2. Participate in a positive work environment.
3. Maintain a current Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
4. Prepare DOT logs of duty and driving hours.
5. Organize and secure loads.
6. Assist forklift operators during loading.
7. Check orders for accuracy.
8. Deliver and unload materials to customer satisfaction.
9. Complete daily vehicle inspections.
10. Record returned merchandise and assist in unloading for credit.
11. Follow DOT guidelines.
12. Provide excellent customer service.
13. Relay messages from customers on-site.
14. Assist supervisors and other staff as needed.
15. Maintain good housekeeping in yard and warehouse.
16. Follow company policies and safety standards.
17. Operate truck-mounted forklift safely and efficiently.
18. Keep the truck clean.
19. Participate in training sessions.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
21. Ensure compliance with all policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CDL experience preferred; basic CDL experience with flatbeds and/or tractor trailers required.
• 1-3 years of CDL experience for interstate commerce.
• Skills in basic math, reading orders, writing instructions, and completing forms.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle conflicts constructively and recognize potential issues.
• Valid operator's license meeting company requirements.
• Knowledge of safe lifting techniques.
• Proficiency with or willingness to learn current technology (smartphones, GPS, business apps).
• Class A and B CDL licenses required.
