Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a Tractor Trailer Operator in Massachusetts. You will drive tractor-trailers, perform required safety inspections, and hook/unhook trailers. You’ll handle freight with forklifts and pallet jacks, secure loads, and complete DOT-compliant documentation.

The role emphasizes customer service, communication with Dispatch, and adherence to safety regs. CDL A or CLP is required, with eligibility for benefits and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and DOT procedures, and ensure placarding matches hazmat shipments.
• Communicate with Dispatch and customers regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
