Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a CDL-trained tractor-trailer operator to join our team in Peosta, IA. Starting pay is $27.26 per hour with hands-on duties, safety inspections, and freight delivery across routes as assigned.

You will perform pre-trip inspections, trailer hookups, dock duties, and customer communications while maintaining accurate documentation and complying with DOT regulations. This role requires physical effort and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulations under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and operate vehicle.
• Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment problems.
• Coordinate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities.
• Where necessary, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
