Job summary

Custom Goods LLC in Carson, CA seeks a Class A Yard Driver to move, spot, and shuttle trailers and containers within our facility and yard. You will operate a yard truck (spotter/hostler) with minimal supervision to support our growing operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Move, spot, and shuttle trailers and containers within the facility yard.
• Operate yard truck (spotter/hostler) with direction from dispatch.
• Hook and drop trailers according to instructions and yard checks.
• Perform pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and safe operation at all times.
• Ensure proper hitching and secure connections for trailers.
• Communicate with dispatch/warehouse via tablet or radio.
• Conduct yard checks and verify trailer/container numbers, seals, and locations.
• Report major maintenance or equipment issues to management.
• Stage trailers for loading/unloading as directed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Custom Goods LLC is currently looking for a Class A Yard Driver to join its safety-conscious team in Carson, CA. This individual will operate a yard truck (spotter/hostler) to move, spot, and shuttle trailers and containers within our facility and yard. This individual must take direction and work with little supervision to support our growing operations.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

• Move, spot, and shuttle trailers and containers between dock doors, staging areas, and yard parking spots within the facility.
• Hook and drop trailers according to dispatch instructions and yard check assignments.
• Perform inspections of your vehicle before and following each shift.
• Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean.
• Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned yard truck.
• Ensure the trailer hitch/fifth wheel is properly and securely attached to the yard truck.
• Communicate with dispatch and warehouse staff as needed using the truck tablet or radio.
• Conduct yard checks, verifying trailer/container numbers, seals, and locations.
• Notify managers of any major maintenance or equipment issues encountered.
• Always make safety a priority.
• Stage empty or loaded trailers for loading, unloading, or outbound pickup as directed.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly, including in tight yard spaces.

• Exhibited good job performance and behavior as measured through indicators such as teamwork, attendance, quality, and productivity, etc.

Physical Requirements

• Use three points of contact when entering/exiting the truck.
• Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.
• Ability to push, pull, grasp, and fine manipulation of equipment using hands is ongoing throughout the work hours.
• Walking on uneven surfaces is possible, though infrequently.
• Sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
• Frequent entering and exiting the vehicle to hook/unhook trailers.
