Job summary

Custom Goods Logistics is seeking a Yard Driver to safely move trailers within the yard, align them for loading, and support efficient warehouse operations. This role emphasizes attention to safety, accuracy, and timely trailer positioning.

You will work with warehouse staff, dispatch, and drivers, perform basic vehicle checks, complete logs, and follow DOT requirements. A valid driver’s license and yard truck certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience as yard goat driver or similar role preferred.
• Familiarity with warehouse and transportation operations.
• Valid driver’s license and yard truck operation certification (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• Safely move trailers between dock doors, staging areas, and yard locations.
• Ensure trailers are aligned for loading and unloading.
• Follow safety protocols and DOT regulations, including PPE use.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the yard goat and report issues.
• Maintain records of trailer movements and coordinate with warehouse staff and dispatch.
• Perform routine maintenance checks and basic troubleshooting of the yard goat vehicle.

In this role, the Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within the yard, positioning them for loading and unloading, and ensuring smooth flow of operations. This role is critical to maintaining an organized and efficient warehouse and distribution environment.

Essential Functions

• Safely move trailers between dock doors, staging areas, and designated yard locations
• Ensure trailers are correctly aligned for loading and unloading
• Follow all safety protocols and company policies, including use of PPE and adherence to DOT regulations
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the yard goat and report any mechanical issues
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements using yard management systems or manual logs
• Coordinate with warehouse staff, forklift operators, and dispatch to ensure timely trailer availability
• Perform routine maintenance checks and basic troubleshooting of the yard goat vehicleReport any maintenance needs or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel
• Communicate effectively with warehouse personnel, drivers, and supervisors to ensure seamless operations
• Assist with other warehouse duties as needed, including loading, unloading, and material handling

Required Education and Experience
