The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a fully automated side loading truck, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic system while driving alone on public roadways to collect solid waste on specified routes.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reports, route sheets, and other documentation as requested by supervisor.
- Report vehicle mechanical problems immediately to mechanic and supervisor.
- Maintain route quality standards as set by management.
- Follow all safety protocols, equipment checks, and comply with all relevant laws and company policies.
- Keep the vehicle clean inside and out.
- Respond to information requests from superiors to ensure compliance with work rules and policies.
- Adhere to all applicable laws and company directives.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate with supervisor to improve routing efficiencies.
- May be required to work overtime.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Minimum of two years of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria per company standards.
- Ability to safely operate the truck and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance.
- Ability to maneuver the truck into tight spaces using mirrors.
- Ability to identify unacceptable waste, such as flammable materials.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand documents and maps.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Coordination of limbs while sitting or standing.
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, reaching, and climbing.
- Visual requirements for safe vehicle operation.
- Ability to operate controls from inside the vehicle.
- Lift/move weights as specified.
- Primarily sitting during driving.
- Work in loud environments.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to noise, weather, mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Occasional work at heights.
- Constant traffic conditions.
