Job Description
The Swing Driver will safely operate various vehicle types including Front End, Roll Off, Residential, and others to service customers efficiently. Responsibilities include delivering collected waste or recyclables to landfills, MRFs, or transfer stations, and filling in for routes as needed to ensure consistent service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate vehicle types with both automatic and standard transmissions, collecting waste, yard waste, and recyclables on assigned routes, which may vary daily.
- Complete safety inspections, reports, route sheets, and other documentation daily.
- Report mechanical issues promptly.
- Operate trucks using prescribed techniques to prevent mechanical failures.
- Follow safety standards and comply with all applicable laws and company policies.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
- Manage assigned Helper(s) if applicable.
- Adhere to all safety and operational protocols, wear PPE, and report incidents immediately.
- Maintain professionalism in demeanor, manner, and appearance.
- Keep accurate service records.
- Perform extra or special pickups as required.
- Assist with route observations and training as needed.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License.
- At least one year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria.
- Ability to operate trucks and equipment safely.

- Knowledge of truck components and maintenance.
- Ability to maneuver trucks in tight spaces.
- Ability to recognize unacceptable waste materials.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
- Flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Coordination and physical agility.
- Adherence to safety policies.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
- Visual requirements for driving and maneuvering.
- Lift/move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Sitting for 75% of the time.
- Work in loud and outdoor conditions.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to loud noise, weather extremes, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work outside and in traffic conditions.
- Occasional work in high places.
