Job summary

Austin Powder is seeking a CDL driver/operator to safely transport and deliver bulk products, perform on-site labor, and support our mobile manufacturing units. This role requires operating heavy equipment, adhering to safety standards, and maintaining accurate logs and records.

You will drive a mix of manual labor tasks and driving duties, with early hours and exposure to the elements. DOT rules and hazmat endorsements are highly valued for this position.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift 50 lbs regularly.
  • Read gauges and regulate them to correct standards; maintain logs and records.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix field issues; attention to safety and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles and equipment safely and professionally.
  • 20–30% driving time; rest is physical labor using hand tools.
  • Transport goods, hazardous materials, and other cargo to destinations.
  • Maintain load manifests, logs, and track working hours.
  • Load/unload materials; assist on-site and at customer locations.
  • Operate MMUs to produce bulk products; ensure consistent quality.
  • Complete pre/post-trip inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Comply with all regulations and company policies for bulk explosives.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, product bulletins, and manuals.

The CDL Class B Driver/Operator is instrumental in the safe and reliable transportation and delivery of our products, efficient in the operation of our mobile manufacturing vehicles, and provides labor support at job sites along with being a part of our home base location's success. The Driver/Operator directly reports to the Location Manager.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Maintains/operates vehicles and equipment in a safe, professional manner.
  • Driving time is 20 - 30% and remainder is performing physical labor activities using hand tools, shovels, etc. outside with exposure to the elements.
  • Ability to coordinate and handle mechanical mechanisms to deliver emulsion.
  • Picks up and transports goods, inventory, hazardous materials, and other types of cargo to intended destinations.
  • Keeps driving and delivery logs maintained, confirms the contents of loads match manifest documents, and tracks and reports working hours.
  • Responsible for loading/unloading and transporting materials and supplies to and from specified destinations, which includes overhead bin loading requiring fall protection.
  • Operates mobile manufacturing units (MMUs) onsite at customer locations to create a wide array of bulk products for blasting.
  • Masters the operation of Austin Powder bulk equipment to create consistent quality in our products to enhance our customer experience.
  • Complete pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and reports any maintenance requirements to Location Manager.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and company policies for the delivery of bulk and packaged explosives.
  • Operate mobile manufacturing equipment, which includes precise control of chemicals into the product.
  • Hands on approach in the daily operation and maintenance of the Austin Powder location and customer sites
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Valid CDL Class-A or Class-B CDL license and clean driving record
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to read and interpret gauges and regulate gauges to correct standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including product usage and safety checks.
  • Trouble shooting, problem solving skills to fix issues in the field.
  • Hazmat, tanker, and air brake endorsements are highly preferred.
  • Must meet the requirements of all State and Federal exp. laws and qualify as an ATF exp. holder.
  • Unrestricted for operations transimissions is a plus.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (starting very early)
  • High attention to detail to have accurate inventory record keeping.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product bulletins, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to identify products by sight.

Education and Experience
  • Must be 21 years of age as required by the DOT
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to the Location Manager for daily operations and when on-site at a customer's location, will take instructions from Blaster-In-Charge
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, lifting and carrying approximately 50 lbs. and doing a variety of hands‑on physical tasks utilizing material handling equipment, safety equipment and hand tools.
