Job summary

Austin Powder Company is hiring a highly capable driver/operator for outdoor bulk materials handling at customer sites. You will operate vehicles and equipment safely, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, and deliver bulk and packaged explosives while complying with regulations.

The role requires a Class A/B CDL, ability to lift 50 lbs, and comfort working in all weather. You must be 21+ and have a high school diploma; hazmat endorsement is preferred and continuous safety training is provided.

Job Overview

Home Nightly — No Weekends — Sign‑On Bonus*

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate vehicles and equipment safely and professionally.
  • Drive for 20–30% of the shift while performing physical labor using hand tools (e.g., shovels) outdoors with exposure to the elements.
  • Coordinate and handle mechanical mechanisms to deliver emulsion.
  • Pick up and transport goods, inventory, hazardous materials, and other cargo to intended destinations.
  • Maintain driving and delivery logs; confirm load contents match manifest documents; track and report working hours.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials and supplies to and from specified destinations, including overhead bin loading requiring fall protection.
  • Operate mobile manufacturing units (MMUs) onsite at customer locations to create bulk products for blasting.
  • Master operation of Austin Powder bulk equipment to produce consistent quality products that enhance the customer experience.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections; report maintenance requirements to the Location Manager.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and company policies for the delivery of bulk and packaged explosives.
  • Operate mobile manufacturing equipment, controlling precise chemical inputs into products.
  • Maintain daily operations, safety checks, and product usage records.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Valid Class‑A or Class‑B CDL license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Read and interpret gauges; regulate them to correct standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including product usage and safety checks.
  • Possess troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills to fix issues in the field.
  • Hazmat, tanker, and air‑brake endorsements are highly preferred.
  • Qualify as an ATF explosive possessor and meet all State and Federal explosive laws.
  • Unrestricted for operating manual transmissions is a plus.
  • Work non‑traditional hours, starting very early.
  • High attention to detail for accurate inventory record keeping.
  • Perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.
  • Follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product bulletins, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Identify products by sight.
  • Have reliable transportation.
Education and Experience
  • Must be 21 years of age as required by the DOT.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Location Manager for daily operations and, when on‑site at a customer’s location, takes instructions from the Blaster‑In‑Charge.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, lifting and carrying approximately 50 lbs., and performing a variety of hands‑on physical tasks utilizing material handling equipment, safety equipment, and hand tools.
