Job summary

Resthaven is seeking a dedicated part-time Bus Driver to operate community transport for residents, following routes and schedules with safety and courtesy. The role emphasizes passenger care, adherence to DOT regulations, and professional conduct in a faith‑based, not-for-profit setting.

The position requires a CDL with passenger endorsements, a clean MVR, and DOT medical certification; prior bus experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid CDL with required endorsements for passenger transport.
  • Acceptable MVR per company/insurance standards.
  • Must meet and maintain DOT medical certification for CDL.
  • Previous bus or passenger transport experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company buses and transportation vehicles per DOT, FMCSA and local regulations.
  • Follow routes and schedules while ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
  • Assist passengers with boarding/disembarking, including mobility needs.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report safety issues.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and basic upkeep.
  • Maintain required driving documentation and incident reports.
  • Participate in safety meetings and DOT compliance programs.
  • Communicate destinations, schedules and trip details to passengers.

Pay Range

$18 - $21.88

Transportation & Safety
  • Safely operate company buses and transportation vehicles in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, state, and local regulations.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules while ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.
  • Obey all traffic laws and defensive driving practices at all times.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including residents with mobility needs.
  • Maintain a courteous, professional, and service-oriented attitude with passengers.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
  • Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as required by DOT regulations.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and immediately report mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle interior and exterior.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain required driving documentation including inspection reports, passenger logs, incident reports, and other required records.
  • Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately according to company policy and DOT requirements.
  • Follow all company safety policies and DOT compliance procedures.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, training, and compliance programs.
Resident Services & Program Support
  • Communicate clearly with passengers regarding destinations, schedules, and trip details.
  • Assist Life Enrichment staff with outing coordination, event set-up, or departmental needs when transportation duties allow.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with residents in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to operate and maneuver large vehicles safely.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to schedules.
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflicts or difficult situations with passengers.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and ability to perform routine inspections.
  • Familiarity with local routes and destinations.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Education, Training, Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements for passenger transport or active Chauffeur License.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in accordance with company and insurance standards.
  • Ability to meet and maintain DOT medical certification requirements for CDL
  • Previous bus or passenger transportation experience preferred.
DOT Compliance Requirements

This position is subject to all applicable DOT regulations including but not limited to:

  • DOT Driver Qualification File requirements
  • DOT Medical Examiner CertificationDOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program
  • Vehicle inspection and safety regulations
  • Accident and incident reporting requirements

Drivers must maintain all required credentials and certifications to remain eligible for this position.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to climb stairs and assist passengers with boarding and disembarking.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for handling luggage or other items as required.
  • Good vision and hearing capabilities to ensure safe operation of the bus.
