Job summary

City of Valdosta is seeking a skilled refuse truck operator to manage assigned routes collecting solid waste, yard waste, and commercial waste. The role involves safe driving, inspections, and routine maintenance.

Responsibilities include supervising crew members, ensuring reports are completed, and maintaining compliance with traffic laws. A valid Georgia CDL Class B license is required or the ability to obtain one, along with basic math and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Apprenticeship/internship or 1–2 years of similar experience preferred.
• Valid Georgia CDL Class B license required or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Complete required reports and logs.
• Drive a refuse collection truck on assigned routes.
• Transport refuse to landfill.
• Wash exterior of vehicle and keep interior clean.
• Perform routine maintenance on truck and check fluids.
• Oversee personnel assigned to the truck.
• Follow traffic laws and regulations.
• Maintain radio contact with dispatcher.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
