Job summary

United Scrap Metal, Inc. in Cicero, IL is seeking an Internal Driver to move trailers, containers and equipment within the yard and between facilities. You will perform pre- and post-trip checks, assist with load hookups and ensure safe, efficient operations under the Transportation Manager.

This full-time role requires at least 2 years of heavy equipment experience, familiarity with DOT rules, and strong coordination with Dispatch and Operations to maintain accuracy and productivity.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience operating commercial or heavy equipment vehicles.
• Knowledge of basic vehicle safety, inspection, and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Strong situational awareness and ability to safely maneuver equipment in confined or high-traffic areas.
• Effective communication with Dispatch and Operations teams.
• Reliable attendance and safety-conscious mindset.

Responsibilities

• Move and spot trailers, roll-offs, and containers within the yard to designated locations.
• Ensure trailers are positioned safely at docks, scales, and storage areas.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on trucks, trailers, and yard equipment; report issues.
• Collaborate with dispatchers and yard personnel to coordinate movements and maintain flow.
• Weigh and document all inbound and outbound materials.
• Maintain clean and organized yard conditions and safe travel paths.
• Follow DOT regulations and site-specific safety policies for vehicle movement.
• Assist drivers with trailer hookups, inspections, and load securement as needed.
• Complete required paperwork and digital logs accurately and timely.
• Perform other duties to support transportation and yard operations.
