Job description

TPG is seeking safe and dependable CDL A Test Driver Technicians in Greensboro, NC. Successful candidates will test drive and evaluate pre-production test vehicles on 'real world' durability test routes/tracks, conduct safety inspections, perform specialized test procedures and mileage accumulation, and document findings on driver reports clearly and concisely.

We are seeking skilled and experienced CDL A Test Drivers to join our team. The CDL A Test Driver will play a crucial role in supporting the customer's testing operations by providing specialized driving expertise, instrumentation and maintenance, and off-site proving ground support. This role requires excellent mechanical ability, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities/Requirements:

1. Install and maintain instrumentation for testing purposes.
2. Assist in truck setup, test setup execution, and teardown.
3. Collaborate with test engineers to execute test plans effectively.
4. Provide feedback on test procedures and outcomes.
5. Assist engineers with technician/mechanic tasks such as part swapping, cable routing, and sensor installation.
6. Conduct off-site travel (25-75%) to support testing operations.
7. Utilize strong diagnostic skills and critical thinking to address challenges in real-time.
8. Adhere to test plans, prescribed modules, and routes.
9. Demonstrate situational awareness and exercise good judgement, especially regarding safety concerns.
10. Perform temporary repairs to prevent downtime during testing.
11. Familiarize oneself with all vehicle systems and operations.
12. Proficiently use computer, tablet, and mobile phone devices for documentation and communication purposes.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

1. Minimum 3 years of experience operating a commercial vehicle.
2. Must have a clean DMV motor vehicle record.
3. Valid Class A CDL required.
4. Current Medical Examiner's Certificate.
5. Ability to use an electronic logging device (ELD) to track hours of service.
6. Must be willing to travel.
7. Strong understanding of truck functions and features.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
9. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
10. Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously with great attention to detail.
11. Mechanical background or experience with hand/power tools.
12. Knowledge of automated testing tools and instrumentation.
13. Background in NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), Vehicle Dynamics, ADAS (Active Safety).
14. Proficiency in composing emails and documenting observed conditions.
15. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
16. Flexibility to test offsite and travel as needed.
17. Positive and professional demeanor.
18. Excellent hourly pay and weekly pay!
19. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree preferred.
20. Prior experience in a similar role within the automotive or transportation industry is advantageous.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

1. Able to lift 50 LBS.
2. Bending, Twisting, be able to squat.
3. Quick reaction during dynamic driving test.
4. Prolonged standing/sitting.
5. Be able to drive 8 hours a day.
6. Must maintain a Class A CDL.
