Job summary

NIS EXPRESS is seeking Experienced Class A drivers for regional intermodal runs in Eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, with two days at home each week and a focus on steady, lane-based work.

The role emphasizes intermodal container hauling, drop-and-hook operations, and minimal city driving along Midwest highways. Out 5, home 2 schedule applies, with direct weekly pay and standard benefits after 30 days.

Qualifications

• At least 21 years old with a valid Class A CDL.
• 6 months OTR experience in the last 12 months, or 12+ months in the past 5 years.
• No more than 2 moving violations in the last 2 years, no major preventable accidents in the last 5 years.
• No DUI/DWI in the past 5 to 10 years depending on when CDL was obtained.
• Must pass DOT physical plus hair and urine drug testing.
• Must live within 75 miles of Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque or Cedar Falls, IA.

Responsibilities

• Intermodal Containers: Hauled on chassis between rail yards and customers.
• Drop and Hook: Most of your time is spent driving, not waiting at docks.
• Consistent Lanes: You learn the routes fast and run them repeatedly.
• Less City Driving: Mostly Midwest highways instead of downtown traffic.

Pay Breakdown

• Mileage Rate: $0.62 per mile
• Load Pay: $20 on every load
• Average Weekly Pay: $1,400 to $1,500
• Paid Weekly: Direct deposit every week

Schedule

• Out 5, Home 2: Every week, not every other week
• Main Lane: Iowa to Illinois and back, with some runs into Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan
• Shifts: Day and night runs available

The Freight

• Intermodal Containers: Hauled on chassis between rail yards and customers
