Job summary

York County is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to perform manual labor in construction and maintenance of County facilities. You will cut grass, maintain athletic fields, and operate light machinery, sometimes acting as lead for new hires.

The job requires outdoor work in all weather and adherence to safety standards. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent with 1-2 years in landscape maintenance, a valid VA driver's license, and pesticide certification or ability to obtain

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent and 1-2 years experience in landscape maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.
• Certification as a State Category 60 Registered Technician for pesticide application required, or must have the ability to obtain such certification with 6 months of employment.
• Safety shoes required.
• Requires an acceptable criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in the construction and maintenance of County grounds and facilities.
• Maintains athletic fields by cutting grass, dragging fields, and lining fields.
• Serves as a lead worker when needed for new hires and seasonal employees.
• Operates light machinery and uses hand tools to prune trees, mow lawns, remove snow, etc.

Education

High School Diploma

1-2 years landscape maintenance experience

Valid driver's license

Pesticide application certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
