Job summary

McLane is hiring a Trainee Component Driver to learn the essentials of distributing products to customer locations and to gain exposure to warehouse functions during development into a Driver role.

This entry-level position requires a Class A CDL, 21+ years old, and strong safety and communication skills. You’ll train with a Driver Trainer across various destinations and receive day-one benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Possess a Class A CDL.
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy.
• Ability and willingness to select/load/unload and/or deliver ALL products that may be ordered by McLane customers.
• Read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bills of lading.
• Perform mathematical calculations to verify quantities of product.
• Communicate with customers, management, and other teammates.
• Safely drive a tractor-trailer, use a 2-wheeled dolly, ramp, and on board PeopleNet devices.
• Read, write and understand English to perform tasks safely.

Responsibilities

• Maneuver tractor into position to attach trailer and handle lines to secure.
• Operate truck in a safe manner in compliance with regulations and policies.
• Inspect tractor-trailer equipment for defects pre/post trip and submit DOT inspection report.
• Operate DDH, document delivery receipts and temperatures; ensure product secure for transport.
• Ride and train with Driver Trainer to learn regulations and driving maneuvers.
• Maintain driver log according to DOT regulations.
• Assist the Driver in unloading trailer and delivering product to customer premises.
• Provide customer service including on-time delivery and handling returns/credits.
