The James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa is seeking a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) who can perform the full range of MRT (Coder-Outpatient and Inpatient) duties to ensure complete and accurate health records.

CDIS serves as a liaison between Health Information Management and clinical staff, guiding documentation improvement and coding accuracy in accordance with VA standards. Experience and certification requirements apply as listed in the vacancy.

Qualifications

• One year of creditable experience indicating knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, medical coding, and the structure and format of a health records.
• An associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health information technology/health information management or related degree with minimum 12 semester hours in health information technology/health information management.
• Completion of an AHIMA approved coding program or equivalent intense coding training leading to eligibility for coding certification.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience with substitutions for up to six months of experience and related coursework in health information technology/health information management.

Responsabilités

• Outpatient and Inpatient MRT (Coder) duties including conversion to CDIS responsibilities as needed.
• Serve as liaison between Health Information Management and clinical staff to ensure complete, accurate health record documentation.
• Demonstrate knowledge of ICD-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding rules and regulations and POA indicators in documentation practices.
