Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Inc. is seeking a Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) to improve provider-based documentation and ensure accurate reflection of patient acuity and services rendered.

The CDS collaborates with physicians, APPs, and coding staff to optimize Epic workflows and documentation quality. Hybrid work requiring occasional onsite presence at the Milwaukee campus; candidate will train staff, provide education on compliant coding and billing practices, and support

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, IT, health informatics, nursing, or similar field.
• Five years’ experience in a similar or relevant role.
• Coding Certification (CPC, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA) or CDI Certification (CDIP) or ACDIS/CCDS-CDS-O, or WI nursing license (RN/LPN) is required.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate documentation to support CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM codes and modifiers.
• Analyze patient status, treatment plan, history and identify documentation gaps.
• Query providers for specific documentation or diagnoses via concurrent processes.
• Lead Epic enhancements related to clinician documentation and training needs.
• Collaborate with providers to understand workflows and ensure compliant coding and billing practices.
• Provide 1:1 and small group education to staff on documentation optimization.
