Job Title: 1 Year - CDE Authorized Substitute Teacher

Reports To: Level School Principal and Assistant Principal

Pay Range: 1-year Substitute Authorization pay rate increase for 2025/2026 as follows: $120 for full day (6.5 hours); $60 for 1/2 day.

The school operates two buildings on one campus: an Elementary/High School at 6525 W. 18th Street and a Middle School at 1717 65th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. Summary/Objective

To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of a teacher by providing assistance and supervision for students when the classroom teacher is unable to teach. Assignment may be at any level (Elementary, Middle or High School) for varying lengths of time and may include other duties as needed. Substitutes are considered an essential part of the education process.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Dress professionally, setting a good example for students.
  • Review the classroom teacher’s daily schedule, lesson plans, seating charts, textbooks, and other materials.
  • Maintain the routines and procedures of the school and classroom as much as possible.
  • Teach the lessons outlined and described by the absent teacher.
  • Consult with the level principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified by the absent teacher; fulfill playground or other duties as assigned.
  • Check attendance for the assigned classroom.
  • Become familiar with the building, especially fire escape routes.
  • Be available to cover a class or assist as needed if there is a planning period; substitute assignments may change as needed.
  • Avoid expressing personal opinions about topics such as religion or politics; maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Remain at school until the end of the school day; ask an administrator where assistance is needed.
  • Avoid personal cell phones or tablets during classroom hours.
  • No personal work is permitted while on duty.
  • Oversee pupil behavior as assigned.
  • If assigned, grade papers for that day and record results as instructed; record absences as instructed.
  • Return keys and materials, complete the substitute time sheet, and obtain signature from the appropriate personnel after completing the assignment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Ability to report to the school office at the scheduled time of substitution.
  • Ability to use computer networks and software applications as needed.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with a diverse group of individuals.

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

  • Must have a 1 Year Substitute Authorization from CDE.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.

  • Must be physically able to work outside during the school year.

Benefits

Employee is eligible for sick leave per state law and school policy; retirement through the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). No additional benefits are contemplated for this position.
