Briya Public Charter School is seeking a CDA Instructor to join the adult education team for a two-generation program serving immigrant families in Washington, DC. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop daily/weekly lesson plans aligned with the CDA Curriculum and adult learning principles.
• Teach CDA classes within Briya’s 2-Gen afternoon program and evening setting; integrate ESOL, literacy, math, and workforce content.
• Evaluate student progress using formal and informal assessments (CASAS, quizzes, group activities).
• Oversee portfolios, support alumni, and coordinate data collection and reporting.

Position Summary:

The CDA Instructors ispart of the adult education team at Briya Public Charter School — a leading two-generation education program serving immigrant parents and their young children in Washington, D.C. Briya is a Tier One Public Charter School, consistently achieving the highest educational outcomes through its innovative, family-centric programming.

Briya’sworkforce development programsprovide integrated education andtrainingthe field of healthcare and early childhood education. Through these programs, adultlearnersprepare for national industry recognizedcertificationsin high-demand careers while also increasing their academic and workforce development skills and knowledge. Briya’s Child Development Associate program equips students to provide high-quality care and education for future early childhood teachers, homevisitorsor directors of licensed childcare development centers.

Weekly Work Schedule:

Monday-Thursday 12:00 pm-9:00 pm and 10:00am-4:00pm on Fridays.

Planning

• Develop daily/weekly lesson plans that adhere to the CDA Curriculum with fidelityand exemplify best practices in instructional designand adult learning principles.
• Utilize effective strategies that provide opportunities for student learning and active engagement in the learning process, incorporating contemporary tools, technologies, and resources, that promote and stimulate all learningmodalities.
• Design authentic learning experiences for students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to beeffectivechildcare providers at bothcenter-basedas well as home-based settings.
• Evaluate students’ progress andcurriculum’seffectiveness through regular formal and informal assessments including CASAS, quizzes, and group activities.
• Plan incollaborationother staff to ensure that all components are integrated education and training are seamlessly implementedinto the regular curriculum

Teaching

• Teach CDAclasses in theas part of our 2-Gen afternoon programand inevening setting, integrating academic skills (literacy, digital literacy, and math), workforce development and the 13 areas of content related to the CDA Curriculum.
• Provide quality instruction that fosters an academic learning climate, actively supports teaching and learning, and implements the curriculum with fidelity.
• Utilize effective teaching strategies and adult learning principles that provide opportunities for student learning and active engagement in the learning process.
• Use assessments and evaluation data to monitor student learning, instructional effectiveness, and instructional decisions.Provide ongoing, informal assessments toprovideincreased instructional opportunities.Assistwith the coordination of data collection.
• Provide a safe and orderly learning environment in the classroom.

CDA Administration

• Oversee learners’ portfolio completion by tracking documents, providing guidance,feedbackand coaching.
• Support CDA-English alumni in fulfilling the requirements for certification and job placement and retention.

Student Support & Other Duties

• Meet onweeklybasis with ProgramManagerto discuss topics such as lesson plans and instruction, assessment data analysis, students’portfolios,andattendance/enrollment.
• Maintainaccurateacademic records of all the students attending assigned classes.
• Collaborate withStudent Servicesto providereferrals for familiesregardingsocial, health, legal and educationalresourcesand opportunities available in the area.
• Assistspecial eventssuch as graduation and other school-based celebrations.
• Supply information and data needed for reporting and work with the monitoring teams who visit the school.
• Participate in all staff meetings, training, and retreats.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience in EarlyChildhood Education.
• Native or fluent speaker of the modeling languages (English and Spanish)
• Minimum of three to five years of successful teaching experience, preferably with adult learners.
• Experience withmeeting the needs of all students in a diverse, multicultural environment.
• Ability to teach classes in English.Spanish, French, and Amharic communication skills preferred.
• Knowledge of Child Care Centers and Home Development Centers industry and awareness of trends.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Expertise ininterpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills.

Physical Demands –

Regularlyrequiredto sit;frequentlyrequiredto reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment –

Mostly in a typical office and/or home setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions.
