Qualifications

• Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months' experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Preferred for advancement to Charge Nurse: BSN.
• Experience—Two years' practice in clinical nursing/leadership in area of responsibility preferred.
• Unit specific prerequisites see addendum.
• Demonstrates leadership, communication, customer service, and commitment to professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, guides, directs, and facilitates workflow on the unit.
• Make staff assignments reflecting patient acuity and continuity of care.
• Mentors staff, float, and agency personnel regarding unit policies and goals.
• Integrates new staff into the culture of the unit and acts as a clinical resource.
• Monitors nursing care and patient rounds to ensure quality.
• Maintains compliance with Joint Commission standards and practice acts.
• Provides input into performance appraisals of clinical staff on shift.
