POSITION SUMMARY

The role of a CCSD Police Officer is to support the educational environment by ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and the school site. This includes identifying and addressing potential safety concerns, enforcing laws and school policies, conducting criminal investigations, coordinating with public safety agencies, communicating important information, and providing emergency care when needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associate's Degree preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
  • Valid P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certification
  • Annual renewal of P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certification
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint
  • Background Clearance
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three (3) years law enforcement experience

Required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: administering first aid and CPR; handling hazardous materials; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications.

Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, regulations, and laws; safety practices and procedures; and techniques for defusing hostile situations.

Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups including those suspected of unlawful activities; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; maintaining confidentiality; and working with frequent interruptions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Performs area-specific duties (campus, gang task force, theft investigations) as required by assignment.
  • Arrests individuals engaged in illegal activities to apprehend suspects and prevent further unlawful actions.
  • Assists community law enforcement personnel within the school environment to support their work activities.
  • Administers first aid to students, staff, and visitors in emergency situations for immediate medical care.
  • Collaborates with community agencies (law enforcement, courts, healthcare) to address cases involving criminal activities, gang activities, and vandalism for school safety.
  • Communicates safety and security policies to students, staff, and visitors, ensuring understanding and compliance.
  • Investigates campus crimes and student-related incidents to resolve conflicts, take appropriate action, and refer cases to external agencies when necessary.
  • Patrols school facilities to provide visibility, maintain security, and deter criminal activities.
  • Responds to safety and security incidents (accidents, injuries, vandalism, alarms) to take appropriate actions and resolve concerns.
  • Prepares reports and documents (incident reports, logs, memos) to document activities and convey information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
