Job summary

Cerberus Capital Management in New York seeks an experienced accounting professional to manage the expense allocation close process and GL analysis for funds across the organization.

You will prepare journal entries, reconcile monthly balance sheets, and collaborate with Deal Teams, Fund Accounting, Tax, and Accounts Payable to ensure accurate reporting and timely close. A strong eye for detail and data-driven mindset are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and action items.
  • Prepare journal entries in a nontraditional data format for Data Warehouse uploads.
  • Prepare monthly bank, payroll, and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare supporting expense accruals and book GL journal entries in Microsoft Business Central.
  • Monitor daily cash activity and perform monthly cash reconciliations with AP, Tax, and Treasury.
  • Maintain and update metadata in Data Warehouse; improve data quality.
  • Prepare monthly expense summaries and analyses.
  • Interact with Operations, Data Warehouse Development, Legal, Tax, and Financial Reporting to resolve issues.
  • Identify, enhance, develop, and document process efficiencies.
  • Assist with ad hoc requests and year-end audits.

Job Purpose
  • CCMx is a subledger of the management company, Cerberus Capital Management, LP (“CCM”). This subledger was created to isolate and separately account for expense activity associated with the funds from the ongoing operations of the management company.
  • Expense categories which are allocated to the funds relate to the funds’ operations, including legal, auditing, payroll (and benefits), consulting, research, and administration expenses. In addition, allocated expenses may include amounts for sourcing, acquiring, holding and disposing of the Funds’ investments.
  • This individual will have the opportunity to identify, enhance, and develop processes to ensure accurate reporting within the high profile expense allocation topic with regulators in the industry.
  • This individual will be responsible for all facets of the general ledger related to expense allocation close process including preparing, reviewing, and analyzing each of the entities trial balance to ensure all items are accounted for with proper support and understanding the related allocation methodologies of these expenses to the funds.
  • This individual will be required to interact with several different departments in the firm both domestically and internationally, including Deal Teams/Front Office, Fund Accounting, Data Warehouse (IT Development), Operations, Financial Reporting, Tax, Accounts Payable
  • This individual will be preparing ad-hoc requests for senior management within the firm.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliation and determine action items
  • Prepare journal entries in a nontraditional data format suitable for uploading into Data Warehouse (Reporting system)
  • Prepare monthly bank, payroll, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare supporting expense accrual calculations and book general ledger journal entries in Microsoft Business Central
  • Monitoring daily cash activity and preparing monthly cash reconciliations, while working closely with Accounts Payable, Tax, and Treasury to identify and solve for unusual transactions
  • Maintain and update meta data within Data Warehouse, improve data quality
  • Prepare monthly expense summaries and analyses
  • Interact with Operations, Data Warehouse Development, Legal, Tax and Financial Reporting to resolve process and accounting issues
  • Identify, enhance, develop, and document process efficiencies
  • Assist with any ad hoc requests
  • Assist with year-end audits
Qualifications
  • Minimum three to five years of relevant experience
  • BA or BS in Accounting or a related field; excellent academic record
  • Experience in financial related capacities preferred
  • Desire to work in a role which combines equal parts getting down into the details of reporting data, and acting as a project manager
  • Natural curiosity and enthusiasm for proactively learning new systems and tools
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills is a must
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Exceptional grammar, documenting, and writing skills
  • Excellent analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and in a very dynamic and deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrate a flexible, creative approach; understand risk and can quickly assess, propose, and adapt solutions unique to each solution
  • Demonstrate high energy coupled with a positive, decisive attitude, with a strong grasp of the details and a sense of urgency.

Compensation
  • The base salary for this position is expected to be between $120,000.00 and $135,000.00. The base salary offered to the chosen candidate will be commensurate with a candidate’s relevant experience and other qualifications for the position, as determined by the Company in its sole discretion. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus [which is often a meaningful portion of the compensation package], and a robust benefits package.
