SAIC is seeking a CBRN Defense Data Scientist/Computer Scientist to support CWMD modeling and technical analysis for Air Force organizations. This role is onsite in the Washington, DC area, supporting work performed at the Pentagon or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
Role Overview
The selected candidate will serve as a CWMD modeler and support computer modeling activities focused on CBRN hazard modeling, post-processing, and analysis. Responsibilities include running CBRN hazard models and translating outputs into analyst-ready data tables and graphics for operational evaluations and assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a CWMD modeler (and nuclear effects modeler when required), building models of complex systems that incorporate CBRN agent effects and attributes across varying conditions such as weather, release mechanisms, and parameters, over different major combat operation (MCO) related operational environments.
- Extract data from CBRN-related modeling programs using post-processing utilities to produce user-friendly tables and graphics that illustrate complexities including toxicity effects over time, degradation of agent strength, and contaminated area coverage as a function of time.
- Develop and execute batch programs that enable Air Force stakeholders (AF/A10SA) to conduct thousands of CBRN-related hazard runs (including HPAC, VLSTRACK, HOTSPOT, and others) without executing each run individually.
- Use computer modeling to support technical analysis for CWMD operations topics including non-proliferation, targeting, interdiction, strike, and counter-air/space actions, with emphasis on USAFE-AFAFRICA ability to survive and operate (ATSO) and CBRN defense technical domains.
- Support technical research and operational evaluations by assessing and interpreting technical and scientific testing results and advising AF/A10S on implications for operators, including pilot, navigator, aircrew, loadmasters, maintainers, and defenders.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum education and experience combination: doctorate with 9 years related experience, or masters with 12 years related experience, or bachelors with 14 years related experience.
- Subject matter expertise in computer programming for MCO-related modeling of CBRN materials (including HPAC, VLSTRACK, HOTSPOT, and related tools) and the analysis of complex systems using technologies such as Python, C++, and Visual Basic.
- Specialized expertise in providing modeling support for technical analysis of CBRN threats.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office products.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience incorporating results of lab or field analysis of CBRN-related tests into modeling programs to support CBRN-related studies.
- Experience developing unique tools that help analysts interpret and use raw data within analytical projects.
- Experience manipulating raw observational data and presenting informed products, including understanding observational data from multiple sources.
