Carl Buddig & Company is seeking a General Labor/Packaging associate in Montgomery, IL to produce and package cooked products with a strong safety focus. You will prepare products, follow rigorous procedures, and ensure timely completion of each batch.

The role requires adherence to GMP/HACCP/SQF standards, ability to communicate across teams, and the stamina to work in a fast-paced environment while supporting cross-training and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Implement procedures for the Smokehouse department.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, and SQF guidelines.
• Maintain oven process rotation for cross-training.
• Perform oven washdown and HACCP checks.
• Record HACCP checks and smoking records.
• Monitor oven temps and CCPs during cooking cycles.
• Conduct pre-flight oven checks and monthly safety training.
• Follow schedules to ensure timely production completion.
• Provide solutions that benefit the company and maintain safety.

Position Summary

As a General Labor/Packaging for Carl Buddig & Company you will be responsible for producing product by preparing and packaging cooked product for shipment with a safety‑minded attitude that maintains and enhances a safety culture for the benefit of the Company and its employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement proper procedures for the Smokehouse department.
• Requires understanding of GMP’s, HACCP and SQF guidelines.
• Maintain an accurate operator oven process rotation to ensure full cross training is maintained.
• Perform oven washdown.
• Document HACCP checks via red zone.
• Perform product checks during shift (oven temperature check, powis graphs, pH monitoring CCP1, temperature check for CCP2 Lethality stage).
• Perform direct observations during cooking cycle.
• Perform pre‑flight oven checks before every smokehouse load.
• Complete Safety/SQF monthly training.
• Follow schedules to ensure that all products are cooked and completed in a timely fashion.
• Analyze situations to provide solutions that are in the best interest of the company.
• Maintain accurate smoking records and reports.
• Make decisions pertaining to production errors and deviations.
• Maintain a safe work environment by watching out for foot traffic: following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations per all forklift operations.
• Perform monthly cooler deep cleans based on the SSOP requirements.

Knowledge and Experience

• Able to professionally communicate with cross‑functional departments.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

Must be able to work in temperatures of 40 degrees or less.

Must be able to stand for 10 hours per day.

Must be able to bend, stoop, and squat as needed for housekeeping responsibilities and other miscellaneous duties.

Must have the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.

Must be able to work 40 or more hours per week.

Must be able to work mandatory overtime if necessary.

Must have good hand/eye coordination.

Must be highly attentive to detail (i.e., meat type/film/date).
