Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis seeks a Substitute Teacher to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment while providing continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

The substitute follows lesson plans, communicates effectively with students and staff, and supports Catholic school values. The role requires adaptability across grade levels and subjects, with emphasis on academic, social, and spiritual development in line with Catholic education

Qualifications

• Experience with children or in an educational setting preferred.
• Ability to follow written lesson plans, classroom instructions, and school procedures.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Commitment to Catholic education values; background checks required.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher.
• Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other school areas as assigned.
• Maintain a positive, orderly, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
• Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with school expectations and Catholic values.
• Take attendance and complete required classroom records, assignments, or reports.
• Provide instructional assistance and clarification to students as needed.
• Communicate effectively with school administration, faculty, and staff regarding classroom needs, student concerns, or other matters.
• Adapt quickly to varying grade levels, subject areas, classroom routines, and instructional expectations.
• Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of students at all times.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
• Follow all diocesan, school, classroom, emergency, and safety procedures and policies.
• Support the mission and values of the Catholic school through professional conduct and positive interactions with students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
