Diocese of Green Bay – Curia seeks a Catholic Communications Writer/Editor to craft engaging, mission-aligned content for On Mission Media across print and digital channels. You will develop columns, profiles, and stories that illuminate the Catholic faith, ministries, and community life.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in writing, journalism, English, creative writing, communications, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to the Catholic faith; must be a practicing Catholic.
  • Excellent knowledge of writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading principles.
  • Solid working knowledge of print and digital media.
  • Familiarity with editorial processes, project timelines, and content workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Catholic teaching, Scripture, liturgy, and the life and mission of the Catholic Church.
  • Proven ability to write engaging columns, feature stories, profiles, and faith-based content with a clear and authentic voice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interviewing, research, reporting, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diocesan personnel, freelance writers and photographers, ministry leaders, and interviewees.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, WordPress, Trello, and common digital communications platforms.
  • Creative thinking and strong storytelling ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple writing assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic familiarity with digital photography and video is a plus.
  • Clearly and accurately communicate complex matters of faith, Church teaching, and diocesan life to a broad audience.
  • Work collaboratively with diocesan offices while also demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound editorial judgment.
  • Ensure content consistently reflects the mission, vision, priorities, and goals of the Diocese of Green Bay.
  • Apply critical thinking and make thoughtful, informed editorial decisions.
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Produce high-quality written content under pressure while remaining focused on the mission of the Catholic Church.

Responsibilities

  • The Catholic Communications Writer/Editor is responsible for producing engaging, thoughtful, and mission-aligned written content for the Diocese of Green Bay and On Mission Media.
  • This role develops original columns, feature articles, profiles and inspiring stories for On Mission magazine, e-newsletter and website.
  • The writer communicates the life, mission, and ministries of the Church in ways that inform, inspire, and connect readers to their faith and to the Catholic community.
  • Key responsibilities include researching and developing story ideas; conducting interviews; writing and editing compelling feature stories and columns; adapting content for digital and print audiences; and collaborating with communications, editorial, and ministry teams to ensure content accurately reflects the vision and mission of the Diocese of Green Bay and On Mission media.
  • The ideal candidate is an accomplished writer and storyteller who can translate complex topics—including matters of faith, Church teaching, ministry, and community life—into clear, accessible, and engaging content for a broad Catholic audience.
  • The position requires strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • A strong working knowledge of Catholic teaching, Scripture, liturgy, and the life and mission of the Church is essential.
  • Experience in journalism, communications, Catholic media, nonprofit communications, or a related field is preferred.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Catholic Communications Writer/Editor is responsible for producing engaging, thoughtful, and mission-aligned written content for the Diocese of Green Bay and On Mission Media.
