Job summary

Cardiovascular Institute of the South is seeking a Cath Lab leader to oversee the daily operations of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in our Elmhurst, IL location. You will provide clinical leadership, drive staffing and scheduling, and ensure safe, efficient patient care for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Current professional clinical license or certification applicable to the discipline.
  • 3–5 years of Cath Lab or cardiovascular procedural experience.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in hospital or cardiovascular settings.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac catheterization procedures and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, including staffing and scheduling.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to Cath Lab staff.
  • Ensure safe, efficient care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
  • Coordinate staffing coverage for scheduled procedures, emergencies, and on‑call needs.
  • Monitor department performance, quality metrics, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, anesthesia, nursing leadership, and other departments.
  • Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and action planning.
  • Manage supplies, equipment, inventory, and expenses while supporting cost‑effective practices.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, and retain Cath Lab staff.
  • Identify educational needs and coordinate orientation and continuing education.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to urgent cardiovascular cases and escalate clinical concerns as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of cardiovascular procedures and industry best practices.

Job description

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, including staffing, scheduling, patient flow, and resource utilization.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to nurses, technologists, radiology staff, and other Cath Lab team members.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
  • Coordinate staffing and ensure appropriate coverage for scheduled procedures, emergencies, and on‑call needs.
  • Monitor department performance, quality metrics, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and applicable regulatory, accreditation, infection prevention, and patient‑safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, physicians, and other hospital departments.
  • Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and develop action plans when performance or safety concerns are identified.
  • Manage departmental supplies, equipment, inventory, and operational expenses while supporting cost‑effective practices.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, evaluate, and retain Cath Lab staff.
  • Identify educational needs and coordinate orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and professional development.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to urgent and emergent cardiovascular cases as needed and ensure appropriate escalation of clinical concerns.
  • Maintain current knowledge of cardiovascular procedures, technology, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Current professional clinical license or certification applicable to the candidate’s discipline.
  • Minimum of3–5 years of Cath Lab or cardiovascular procedural experience.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience in a hospital or cardiovascular setting.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac catheterization procedures, patient safety practices, and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high‑acuity, fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to participate in or oversee an on‑call/emergency coverage model as required by the hospital.
