Job summary

Faculty Student Association at SBU is hiring a Catering Worker to support catering and food service operations across Stony Brook University Hospital and campus locations. The role involves setting up, delivering, serving, and breaking down catered events, assisting with food preparation, and upholding sanitation standards.

This essential, non-exempt position offers flexible scheduling (minimum 15 hours per week) with weekend/holiday shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Food Handler Certificate or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• At least 1 year of food service experience preferred.
• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to travel between campus locations as needed.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Set up, deliver, and break down catering events.
• Ensure food, beverages, supplies, and equipment are organized and presented professionally.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment.
• Assist with food preparation and service for catered events and patient meal operations.
• Transport food, supplies, and equipment safely throughout campus and hospital locations.
• Follow food safety, infection control, and departmental procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Catering Worker provides excellent customer service while supporting catering and food service operations across Stony Brook University Hospital and other Stony Brook locations. Responsibilities include setting up, delivering, serving, and cleaning up catered events, assisting with food preparation, maintaining sanitation standards, and ensuring a positive customer experience.

Essential Position:This position is considered "Essential". The incumbent must report to work regardless of extreme weather of other conditions.

Position Details:Local 1199 Union
Pay Rate: $28.51 per hour
FLSA:Non-Exempt
Schedule: Part-time - 15 hours per week minimum ; Various hour/Various Shifts - Flexibility a must, weekends and holidays required. MUST have open availability.
